TARRAGONA TRAIN STATION PLAN

The plan started off  from an analysis of the Tarragona, Reus and Valls region and the impact of the new high-speed rail and its relation with Reus’ airport. The study showed that the existing infrastructure could not satisfy the combined transportation needs of these cities. Thus, a new strategic plan had to be designed.

Tarragona Train Station Plan

The plan is structured around a new tramway connecting the airport, the rail station and the three cities. The tram stations would be connected to the downtowns via bus, and its presence would stimulate new development areas.

Within this larger plan, a more detailed urban project was prepared for the periphery of Tarragona. The proposal includes a new tram station that would encourage the occupation of the surrounding underutilized properties. The project also includes a new park, the expansion of Tarragona’s University Campus and new commercial and residential buildings, which would help increase the population density.
